GIRLS’ RIGHT CLUB BY IPWR-A
Empowering Young Women for Peace and Social Change in Africa
Africa is home to one of the youngest populations in the world, with girls and young women representing both the continent’s potential and its future leaders. Yet many face significant barriers, including limited access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities to develop the skills necessary for social and economic empowerment. To address these challenges and empower girls to become advocates for peace, gender equality, and women’s rights, the Initiative for Peace and Women’s Rights in Africa (IPWR-A) launched the Girls’ Right Club.

IPWR-A’s Girls Community Challenge 2025: Celebrating Young Women’s Impact Across Africa
Through creative expression, leadership, and innovation, IPWR-A provides a platform for young women to showcase their impact and inspire positive change within their communities.
Africa’s young women are making a significant impact in their communities through creativity, leadership, and innovation. Recognizing this potential, the Initiative for Peace and Women’s Rights in Africa (IPWR-A) launched the 2025 Africa-wide Girls Community Challenge, a platform designed to celebrate and amplify the voices, talents, and contributions of girls aged 15 to 20 across the continent.
Aligned with the International Day of the Girl Child 2025 theme, “My Role in My Community: Girls Leading Change for a Sustainable Future,” the challenge provided participants with the opportunity to share their ideas through Essay Writing, Visual Art, and Poetry, showcasing projects that foster sustainable growth and community development.
With entries accepted in English and French, and supported with sign language interpretation, the challenge emphasized inclusivity, ensuring that every girl, regardless of language, location, or ability could fully participate and shine.
This initiative not only highlights the leadership and creativity of African girls but also demonstrates how they are already shaping a sustainable and inclusive future.
A Platform for Creativity and Leadership
The 2025 Girls Community Challenge invited girls across Africa to demonstrate how their ideas and projects contribute to community development. From essays to visual art and poetry, participants explored innovative solutions to real-world challenges in their communities.
The response was overwhelming, with entries reflecting the passion, vision, and resilience of young women determined to make a meaningful impact. Each submission highlighted a commitment to sustainable development, community empowerment, and positive social change.
Recognizing Excellence: The Finalists
After a careful review process, nine exceptional finalists emerged, each representing the values of empowerment, creativity, and leadership. These young women exemplify how African girls are not just imagining change—they are actively leading it.
Founder Mrs. Edidiong Idang expressed her appreciation:
“This challenge is a testament to the incredible talents and drive of African girls. We are grateful to our volunteers, partners, and sponsors who ensured every girl, regardless of disability, language, or location, had an equal opportunity to shine. The future is brighter because of them.”
The grand award ceremony, scheduled for October 11th, 2025, will honor the finalists and spotlight their inspiring stories. This event celebrates the contributions of girls as leaders of change and highlights how young women are already shaping the communities and futures they envision.
Since its founding in 2012, IPWR-A has remained committed to empowering girls through education, peacebuilding, community development, and inclusive governance. The Girls Community Challenge 2025 continues this mission, demonstrating that Africa’s young women are already making a meaningful impact and shaping a sustainable future for their communities.
